BEQUEST TO PAISLEY CHURCH
LATE MR. WILLIAM ADAMS' CAREER. An Auckland gentleman, who wes personally acquainted with the late Sfr. William Adams (iii connection with whose will, in favour of the High Church at Paisley, "Scotland, the Appeal Court has just griven its decision), informed a "Star" reporter to-day that,' ac far as liis information went, the deceased! gentleman was a native of Paisley. He came to Auckland when a young man, | and resided here for about half a <-en- j tury. his death occurring some eight j ;or nine years ago, when he was between; !70 and SO year* of Hge. The late Mr. i 1 Adams, the informant added, although quiet and unassuming and concerned I little with public affairs, was a ke.enj I business man, and .amaesed much wealth ', in property speculation, the properties , jin the estate, (valued at £00.0001 being • I scattered about in various parts of AiickIliind and the surrounding districts. Mr. I Adams at one time attended the meetings in the Church of Christ in W«t j 'Street, and later, when a branch of the. I I Unitarian Church was established here, he sometimes attended service there. ■ Some years before his death he visited Paisley, and («aid the gentleman who gave the pressman the information) it j was probably while there that he made I arrangements with the. Church authorities in connection with th? bequest. The informant further stated that as far as he understood the will, provision was made for the mortgages on the ; estate, as they fell due to ho paid into ■ the capital account. Tf this were so. it j would menu that the Paisley High i Church would not receive the benefit o£ the bequest for very many years yet.
