THE SPORTS GATHERING.

The eports postponed from Saturday last will take place on the Domain tomorrow afternoon. The programme arranged is a splendid one, and includes a. number of events for the men from the warship. The invitation race, in whiett the Auckland centre's nominees, L. J. Mark and J. J. Mulvihill, will be opposed by the champion of the TT-M.fi, Now Zealand. A. Barry, is creating considerable interest, and if the latter succeeds ia beating the local men, he will get a great reception. The seven-a-side Rugby tournament ia sure to be keenly contested, and it will be interesting to see how the team from the New Zealand shapes against the loiral men.

It appears that some difficulty is being experienced in getting leave of absence from business for those desiring to participate in the football and athletic events at the sports to be held on the Domain tomorrow arranged in connection with the visit of H.M.S. New Zealand. The Mayor, speaking to a "Star" representative this morning, said that in view of the fact that the sports were really arranged for the entertainment of the men, he hoped; ■the employers would stretch a point, and allow the men who were competing to be* free for a few hours. "I would not ask this were it not for the exceptional nature of the occasion," remarked the Mayor, "but we arc entertaining men ol the British Navy, men who help to keep; Auckland safe and sound, and we wane to do them well." The Mayor and members of.the Executive Committee will be i present at the eports. An invitation has been extended by the committee of the Auckland Centre o£ the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, to the children of Standards V. and VI. of the public schools to attend the sports, sifter the address toy Captain. ■Halsey in the Town SalL The kindly, action of the committee will be greatly; appreciated by the youngsters, who are sure to muster in full force.
