FIRE INQUEST.
EVIDENCE OF DRINKING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WEIjUSTGTOX, Monday. At the inquest hold to-day on the bodies of 'Mr. and Mrs. Hall, who perished in the Lome Street fire, the evidence showed that a quantity of liquor was taken into the house during Saturday evening, and that the three boarders (who es caped) and both deceased were under the influence of liquor. About half-past 11 Lloyd and O'Sullivan were awakened by the fire. They called Stevenson, the third man, and all got out. Lloyd, before leaving, called Mrs. Gall, but, receiving no reply, and having left the Halls sitting in the kitchen, he thought they had both got out.
The Coroner (Mr. Riddell) returned a verdict that the deceased- were accidentally suffocated. He remarked that if the boarders bad not been apparently under the influence of-drink, they might have made a more careful investigation to see if the old people were lately- out of tiw hooae.
