FIRE ON THE COURTFIELD. (Received 10.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The Courtfield has arrived from New York. During the voyage a fire caused slight damage to the vessel, but did not damage the cargo.
CHIA GETS FIVE YEARS.
MELBOURNE, AprU 28. The Chinaman, Thomas Jones Chia. who, on March 21, shot at and wounded Mr Hwang (Consul-General for China), and who pleaded guilty last week to wounding the latter with intent to do him grievous bodily harm, has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment with bard labour.
