NEW HEBRIDES.
DIJAZ. CONTBOL SYSTEM. TIME IT WAS ABOLISHED. (Received 10.20 a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. Captain Ashton, of the steamer Flinders, after a lengthy trading tour of the Xew Hebrides, considers that dual control is becoming more and more unsatisfactory. A feeling prevailed among the colonists that the sooner the group is taken over • either by Britain or France the better it will be for all concerned. At the present time French traders have a great advantage over the British. The French authorities interpreted the laws more leniently in regard to their colonists than did the British. The French authorities adhered to the convention laws, while the British made extra laws under which British colonists worked. While the French were permitted to recruit women labour. British traders could recruit ouly males.
