CATHOLIC FEDERATION.

■MEETING IN AUCKLAND. A meeting of the Auckland Diocesan Journal, of the N.Z. Catholic Federation, took place- at St. Patrick's Presbytery, Auckland, on Friday. There vere present about 40 delegates representing the parishes of Taumarunui, Te Kniti, Cambridge, Hamilton, Thames, iWhangarei. Te Awamutu, Huntly, all the city and suburban Parishes. Several of the" other Parishes in the more remote parts of the Diocese were represented by proxy. The proceedings were of a most enthusiastic nature throughout. Reports ■received from the delegates of the different country parishes showed that Catholics throughput the Diotiese'were taking up the Federation movement with wholehearted enthusiasm, and thoroughly approve of The principles of the Constitution, to the promoting of a sound consolidated Catholic opinion on moral and social questions affecting Catholic interests, and the advancement and promotion of Catholic education.

The following officers were elected: President, Mr Jae. J. Furlong; vicepresident.?, Messrs D. Flynn- and B. McLaoghlin: lion, secretary, Mr F. G. J Tcinm: hon. treasurer, Mr Of. J. Sheahan. The following gentlemen were elected as delegates from the Auckland Diocesan io the" Dominion Executive:—Messrs J. «T. Furlong, B. McLaugblin, and E. R. Casey. As the Federation is (to quote from its constitution) not a political party, nor does it desire to interfere with the political views of its members, nor to touch politics, except where politics touches religion, the Dominion executive passed the following resolution: "That in order to guard against the danger of the Federation becoming involved in any political entanglements, it is desired that no member of Parliament nor of any municipal body, nor any candidate for such position, bs allowed to be a member of any executive, diocesan council, or parish committee, nor be permitted to speak at any Federation meetings." The enterprising Christchurch lad whose sketch of a picture-comedy 3iae ibeen accepted by the Vitagraph Company -of America is Master Starr King IMassoii, a lad only 18 years of age. His play ie entitled "Leading of the°Light," adapted from th-o weU-lcnown hymn, "Lead, Kindly Light." Of it the secretary of the Vitagraph Company eaye, in. a. recent letter to the young author: "With regard to your manuscript of the play en-titled 'Sheading of the Light," we shall be pleased to eend you for this manuscript the sum of forty dollars, as the play is; indeed, exceedingly well written, and -will, no doubt, prove an excellent picture if troll acted and staged.
