AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.

THE FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The Auckland Harbour Board met this afternoon, those present being tlie Cha'rman (Mr J. H. Gunson>. Messrs H. IX Heather, A. Koyes, A. J. Entrican, 3. 11. Bradney, M.P., H. H. Adams, J. E. Taylor, W. E. nntchinson. C. Bagley, E. \V. Alison, P. Virtue, and 3. S. Bond. ST. HELIER'S WHARF LIGHT. The Tamaki Boad Board wrote taking exception to the Harbour Board's decision to adhere to its previous decision not to allow n light at tlie end of St. Heller's wharf. Reconsideration at the matter was requested, as the present light was Inadequate. UNCOMPLETED SLIPS. The New Zealand Shipowners' Federation wrote drawing attention to the serious loss and inconvenience occasioned to shipowners by tlie delay in completion of the slips for use of vessels of the Minaller classes'. Only recently an Auckland vessel had been obliged to make use of the appliances at Gisborne, and it" was asked that Ihe work be pushed forward. NOETHCOTE VEHICULAR SERVICE. The establishment ot a vehicular service from Northcote before next season was urged in a letter sent by the Waitemata Fruitgrowers' Co-operative Society, Ltd., on .behalf of local fruitgrowers. PARNELL JETTIES. In connection with the proposed removal of the Parnell wharf and Wynyard Pier, the Board in committee rceoinended that consideration of the question be deferred for nine months. The recommendation was adopted. TRADE 01" THE PORT. The Acting Harbourmaster (Captain H. H. Sergeant) reported for the past fortnight that tbe arrivals at the port were five large cargo steamers, eight intercolonial or Island traders, six coasters from Southern ports, and one foreign and one inter-colonial sailing vessel—an aggregate .of 85,034 gross tons and 53,533 net tons. There also arrived 210 local coasters, of 40,805 gross tons and 22,874 net tons, making together a grand total of 125,0:10 gross tons and 76,407 net tons. INSPECTION OF WORKS. The Works Committee reported that on the 2nd Inst., with several other members of the Board. It visited the various works and plant. Upon the eastern portion of the reclamation at Mechanics' Bay good progress had been made, and the completion of the embankment was near at hand. Complete provision -was being made for sluices in the wall, and the boat sheds on the embankment were almost completed. Work at the Calliope Hock pumps and caisson was progressing satisfactorily, being well advanced. Progress upon the large reclamation at Freeman's Buy was being steadily maintained. A considerable area had recently been brought up to top level, tlie western section being almost completed. The smaller reclamations at Julian's wall and Hobson Street showed good progress, and the fonndation work at tlie vehicular stage site was well advanced. Work upon the Queen Street wharf was progressing satisfactorily. The matter of the demolition of the old wharf and the continued vigorous prosecution of the new work was one of urgency. The committee had no recommendation to make, the work in its opinion having lieen carried on satisfactorily during the past quarter.
