•Mrs Hamilton Hodges, who has been On a visit to America, returned by the Zealandia this morning. •

Mr Horatio'Xelson, of Nelson, Moate and Co., arrived in Auckland last night from Wellington, and will he here for a few days.

Mi: and Mrs J. F. Studholme, of Ruinui, in the Wellington district, returned by the Zealandia this morning after a visit to Fiji; where Mr Studholme has plantation interests.

Among former residents of Auckland who have returned to spend the evening of their days in this city, are Mr and Mrs Felix McGuire, who have been living near Hawera for a number of years. Mr McGuire represented, a Taranaki constituency some years ago.

Mr W. Bruckner, of Vienna, was ' a passenger by the Zealandia from Vancouver this morning. Mr Bruckner, who is interested in engineering works, is on a round-the-world tour making observations on engineering works and methods in various countries. He has just spent five months in Canada, inspecting, some of the most interesting operations in the Dominion, and after a brief stay in New Zealand wfli proceed on to Australia.

Captain J. D. S. Phillips who arrived in Auckland with the Zealandia to-day, was presented with a handsome, dock by the passengers of that steamer while the vessel was making her last call at Honolulu. Those making the presentation remarked that, as some changes were to take place among the steamers on the Vancouver .run when the Niagara came into the trade, it. was thought possible that Captain Phillips might not be coming that way again.

Mr N. Fulton, Government Dairy Instructor at Stratford, has been granted six months' leave of absence, and, accompanied by Mrs Fulton, will sail from Auckland for Vancouver on. 'the Makura ■next Friday. He . proposes making a brief stay in Canada and visiting various parts of the States before going on to the British Isles. and 'Mrs Fulton will also visit the idand of Jersey and Denmark. They will return-via the Suez Canal, and Mr Fulton expects to be back in time for the busy season., The following members of ithe Auckland district are attending the triennial meeting of the HA.C.B. Society, whiph is being held this week in Napier: District president, Bro. J. M. Foy; P.D.P., Bro. W. Beehan, M.L.G.; Bros. Smith, P. J. Nerheny, and Corbett (Auckland delegates); A. J. Martin (Onehunga); E. Dane (representing Inglewood); C. Reynolds (representing Charlestown); P. Duffin (representing Mtflerton); ilclntyre (Thames); J. C. Griffin (Otahuhu); D. McGarten (representing Oa-maru); John Patterson (-Waihi); and the Rev. Father Ormond (representing New Plymouth). Among the district officers attending are Bro. K. Kane, district secretary; Bro. D. Flynn, D.V.P.; and Bro. M. J. Sheahan, district treasurer. Sister Walsh will represent the Sancta Maria branch. Mr J. Clementi Collard, head of the weil-tknow.n piano firm of that name was a passenger this morning by the Zea-landia from Vancouver, on a" pleasure trip round, the world. 'Mr Collard \ya6 in Auckland some 22 years ago. and the great progress which the city and port have made in the last two decadep caused him to utter many exclamations of surprise as the vessel steamed up the harbour this morning. Many of the old landmarks he looked for in vain, while tbe total transformation of the waterfront in the vicinity of the wharves drew from him the opinion that Auckland must be making a big bid to rank among the world's up-to-date ports.
