N.Z. POWER BOAT ASSOCIATION. CHALLENGE RACES. The New Zealand Power Boat Association held challenge races on Saturday for the. seven, eight, and nine knot I .championship pennants. The flagship was I the launch Kirita, whose owner, Mr. W. H. Worrall, acted as judge, while Messrs. W. It. Twigg and Watson were timekeepers. 1 ■ The Richmond Cruising Club held Its third race of the season to Rocky Bay on Saturday afternoon, the course being direct from Ponsonby wharf, keeping outside nil fairway marks, including the buoy off Urown'E Island. The following are the results of the racing:— Class I.—Emerald, time occupied, 5b 27m 6s; Varuna, 5h 27m 40s; Sadie, oh 28m 20s; Speedwell, oh 28m 15s: Lina, Oh 42m ss. On corrected times, Speedwell is first, , Varuna second, aud Emerald third. Emerald led at the start, hut Sadie got into the lead after a short distance had been covered. .At the Moan Rock Emerald again ! drew ahead, and held her place till the iluish. RACE TO PUTIKI BAY. The Devonport Yacht Clnb held a cruislug race to l'utikl Bay on Saturday afternoon. The competitors included a "unniber of flrst-ciass yachts, and an excellent race resulted. Taking advantage of the strong S.W. breeze, the Ariki soon got ahead, and maintained her lead all the way. PAIR-OAR TRIALS. The North Shore Rowing Club started a series of pair-oar trials on the Cheltenham Beach course on Saturday afternoon, when Ihe members rolled up in force, and provided some exciting and particnlarly enjoyable racing. T>he committee very wisely divided the competitors into two grades, thus providing very much better contests and a more even display of form. Trophies for the A grade were presented by Mr. A. Gee, and for the B grade by Mr. B. Lane, both gentlemen being keen supporters of the Club in Devonport. Following are details of the racing:— A GRADE. First Round.—B. Fowler and Rutledge beat K. Bennett and E. Harrey, Mcllwraith and S. BeEoett beat P. Weston and R. Harvey, Wolfgramm and H. Taylor beat S. Weston and H. Grubb, R. Spinley and G. Bailey rowed a dead heat with E. Bailey and L. Cliff, D. Law and Bowley beat G. Seagar and Gilmoiir. ■Second Round. —Mcllwraith and S. Bennett beat Fowler and Butledge. ' Third Bound.—Law and Bowley teat Wolfgrani and Taylor.
