A MINER KILLED.

FATALITY AT HIKURANGI. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAKEI, tliis day. John Jenkins, a miner, aged 56, a widower, was so severely hurt by a fall of earth in the Northern Coal Company's mine at Hikurangi on Saturday nigiit that he died an hour after. John Dobson, who was working with him, escaped. An inquest was begun to-day, and adjourned till Saturday to admit of the mining inspector being present. Jenkins is supposed to have a daughter, Bert Delee, residing in Fitz Street,- l'nimerston North, and also a daughter (Mrs F. McPhee), residing in Wakefield Street, Auckland.

• The miners stdpped work to-day as a mark of sympathy with deceased.
