THE SOUTHLAND FLOODS.
HOUSES STILL UNINHABITABLE. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) - GORE, Sunday. The flood waters have receded, bat many hundreds of the bouses inundated aTe still uninhabitable, awing to the dampness and silt. Reports received from the country indicate that many low-lying farms " are seriously affected, there having been loss in winter feed, while hundreds of miles of fencing have -been damaged or swept. away. The town and district is remarkably cheerful however, and hopeful that a good recovery will be experienced. Light and.power is still off, seriously hampering business. Saturday night shopping was abandoned, owing to the lack of light. It is not certain when the current will be ; restored, but it is hoped that all will ibe well , to-morrow.
