THEFT OF MONEY. WELLINGTON, tbi< day. Two young men, James Moore and Herbert Bailey, who had pleaded "Criiilty" to various charges of stealing money from the "New Zealand Times" Company, were to-day sentenced to six months' imprisonment.

COURT OF APPEAL

WELLINGTON', tliis day. The Appeal Court this morning opened its first sittings for the present year. The lirit about 20 cases. Final leave to appeal to the Privy Council was granted in Reed v. the Equitable Life Assurance Society. The Sugar Trust case ie fixed for the 14th proximo.

NAPIER HOSPITAL COLLECTIONS

FTRK NEAR DA^'NEVIRKE.

DANNEVIRKE, this day. An eight-roomed bouse at I'mutaroa, the property of the Hnwke'.s Hay Education P»oard. and occupied by Peter Anderson, was destroyed by fire on Saturday. The fire is alleged to have spread from burning bush in the neighbourhood. The contents were insured for £200 in the Royal, and the building for £400 in an office unknown.

ELECTRIC POWER STOPPAGE

DUNEDIN, this day. In three firms alone 500 hands will be temporarily thrown out of work in conspcuience of the stoppage of the Waipori electric power. Efforts are being made to run a gas plant meanwhile, and it is hoped to 4pve the I rvine and Stevenson freezer a few tons of powre to-night, otherwise £:S,OOO worth of stuff will be destroyed. A big gang of workmen is employed at the Waipori fluming, and it is hoped, with tine weather, the. trouble will be got over by Wednesday morning.
