Mr. C. K. Wilson, M.P. for Taumarunui. arrived on a brief visit to Auckland on Saturday.
Mr. Alex. Sample, a retired merchant, 65 years of Age, died suddenly yesterday of heart failure, says a Wellington Press Association message.
The death is announced, by Press Association ca-ble of Lord Archibald, Campbell, brother and heir-presumptive of the Duke of Argyll.
Mr. J. G. Coates, M-P. far Kaipara, arrived in Auckland with the Minister of Public Works on Saturday evening, and is making a few days' stay in town.
Mr. R. Bushell, manager for Messrs. Henry Berry and Co., Customs Street West, has resigned hie position in that firm, and is leaving for the South in a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. R. Barringer are to leave, by the s.s. Victoria this evening for Sydney. They are to join the Orient liner Orama in Sydney for London. Mr. and Mrs. Barringer expect to ibe away for about twelve months.
Dr. Robert Stout, M.8., London, M.R.C.S., Eng., who has been doing post graduate surgical work in Edinburgh during the past two and a half months, has, according to a cable received, passed the degree of FJI.C.S. of Edinburgh.
Occasion was taken at a social gathering at Papakura on Wednesday last to bid bon voyage to Mr. William Richardson, who leaves this evening for an extended trip to the Old Country. Mr. Richardson is visiting the Home Land after a sojourn of thirty years in the Papakura district.
Dr. Donaldson, M.R.C-S-, died at Gore to-day, aged 68 years, after a long illness. He was medically trained in London, and arrived at Wellington 40 years ago. Shortly after he practised at Bußs, and was for nine years surgeon of the Arrowtown Hospital. Later he went to Gore, where he has been ever since, and was widely esteemed. He wae married, and. leaves a widow and three sons. —fPres3 Association.)
The Hon. W. Fraser, Minister of Pnblic Works, arrived in Auckland from his tour of the North on Saturday night, and proceeded on to Wellington by last night's express, accompanied by his private secretaries, Messrs. J. H. McAlister and K. G. Chamberlain. The Minister leaves Wellington again to-morrow on a tour of the Taranaki district, in company with the Prime Minister.
Mr Robert Wylie, who passed at Kaia-poi Tecently, at the age of 78, with his wife a-rrived in AncJ-land in. the Watersprite in 1863, and was engaged in building pontoons and light vessels •to aeeist the British operations in the Maori war. Thirty-five years ago he settled in Lyttelton, and later removed to KaLapoi. While serving ac a shrp'e carpenter, he was on one occasion on a vessel thaat was wrecked on the coast of South America, and getting to shore he received a wound from armed natives. The rescued part of the vessel's crew were some weeks before they reached a friendly settlement.
In Mr. >S. H. Macky, who hae 'been appointed to take charge of the new school to be opened at Te Papa (Onehunga) tomorrow, the residente of that rapidlygrowing district have a teacher who his already won distinction in the Board's service ns a successful headmaster of a large school. For six years Mr. Macky has occupied the position of headtc-c'ier in the Waihi East School, a position that he. filled with marked ability nnd x optional tact. For five years of his stay in the (at times) turbulent mining centre, he was also superintendent o.f the local technical school, and at all times he wia an active and popular figure in musical circles and in the athletic life of the towu.
