A WHANGAREI SETTLER'S GRIEVANCE.

iTo the Editor.) Sir,—Would you kindly grant mc space in your columns to let the public fcncrw how a settler is treated by the County Council of WhangareiV I have 407 acres of freehold , land situated at Ruakaka, and am only 57 chains from the main Whangarei roail. and yet I have to travel over four milee to reach there. I have been repea-tedly promised a road by the County Council, and they ■have kept the ma-tter in abeyance for three years and now (finally tell mc they can do nothing. I have manure, grace seed, etc., and camrot possibly pet it on to my farm—in fact. I am (-oinplctelv isolated. On the 14th .Tuly, 1011, I signed an agreement with the County Council agreeing to pay the compensation for the land resumed under the Public Works Act. They had to do the fencing and formation: this tliey did not carry out. They then raised the point that they had no funds. J thereupon offered to advance the money, to be returned to mc in twelve months. That they did not accept; so what I am to do now I am at a lose to know. My time hae been wasted, I have been put to considerable expense, and then ignored absolutely. The land I occupy hae been settled upon for sixty years, and the occupiers were using a. road through private property, bnt T have been stopped from using it. Thie is the road I want resumed. —I am, etc., M. PAVLOVICH. Ruakaka, February 28, 1813.
