THE GAME SEASON.

TO BE OPEN FOR THREB MONTHS. PROBABLY FOR USUAL IMPORTED AND NATIVE VARIETIES. As appeared in our iaeue of yesterday the president of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society (Mr. W. H- Hazard) received a letter from the Hon. Mr. Bell (Minister of Internal Affairs) stating that it had been decided to declare the present game season an open one. Upon receipt of this letter Mr. Hazard wired the Minister for further particulars, and this morning he obtained the following reply:—"Shooting season in Auckland district will be open for May, June, and July if the society desires. Kinds of game to be shot under consideration. Please say what kinds of game you think should be shot in your dietrict-"

Mr. Hazard informed a pressman this morning that he bad not yet had an opportunity of putting the matter before the council of the society, but stated that all those he had seen were of the opinion that the season should be open for the same period as usual —three months, and that the usual varieties of game, both imported and native, should be shot* These include pheasants and Californian quail as imported game, and grey ducks,' teal, pukeko and swan as native game. "The decision of the Minister." saicl Mr. Hazard, "is no doubt due to the request made at the conference of acclimatisation societies last year in Wellington, that the various societies should be allowed to open er close the season in their districts at their own discretion, as- they would naturally be in the best position to be possessed of the state of the game in their own districts. From-all reports so far the present dry season has been a very good breeding one, and birds are reported to be very numerous."
