MISHAP TO LAUNCH.
CREW'S TRYING EXPERIENCE.
A most unplea&ant experience befell Messrs J. Tidford, M. Sim-peon, and R. E. Bridgman on Sunday last at Canoe Rock, off Kanau. When approaching the Rock the engine broke down, and while repairs were being made by the crew it was discovered that the "pump outlet had been lest. Water commenced to come through into the cockpit, and the party in the boat had to bail etrenuouslv to keep the launch from filling. After some time a board wae taken up 'from the flooring and the hole was plugged. A stiff westerly was blowing at the tfane, but fortunately it moderated towards evening, and the trio were able to tow the boat towards Kawau Island. After three and a-half hours' work a small bay was reached at Kawau and the boat was anchored. Meeers Simpson and Bridgman had a trying time in reaching the summit of a steep cliff, but eventually the track to the Mansion House w-ae discovered, and after a walk of nine miles the two men arrived at the boardinghouee at 1.30 a.m. on Monday. A launch was secured, and they returned to the bay to pick up Mr Tidford, who wae suffering from«a eevere cut in the leg.
