NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Northcote Borough Council met on Tuesday evening. School Drainage.—A memo, was received from the Secretary of the Board of Education stating that the effluent pipe In connection with the septic tank at the district school had been completed at a cost of| £50 2/2, and asked for the payment of the cost, £10. This was agreed to. Insanitary Drains. The inspector appointed by the Health Department reported having visited a number of houses having insanitary drains and served notices thereon. It was resolved to ask the Health Department to take action where necessary in the matter. Advances Department.—A communication was received from the State Guaranteed Advances Department stating that owing to the stringency of the money market they regret having to decline a loan of £200 (being *10 per cent on the first' loan of I £2000). It was resolved to refer the matter to a sub-committee consisting of Councillor Mowlem, the Mayor, and the Town Clerk to be dealt with. Pumping Works.—Th# engineer in charge of the reservoir and pumping station reported that the total number of gallons pumped during the month was 1,692.000 gals., whilst 612,000 had been pumped into the Takapuna Hiding. Fire Bell. —It was decided to erect a fire bell opposite the Council Chambers, under the supervision of Councillor Fearnley, the bell having been purchased from the Pitt Street fire brigade station some months I ago.
