BUCKLAND NEWS.

The monthly meeting of the Pukekohe East Road Board took place here on Saturday. All the members were present Mr. Allan presided. A tender for breaking metal in Frost's quarry at 6/9 was received from J. W. Stayte- Mr. Fulton was authorised to accept the same, provided the work can be completed by April. The Railway Department wrote re metalling road at Tuakan, stating they could not undertake the work at present, owing to pressure of other work, and asking tbe Board what sum they would accept to carry out the work- Referred to members for report. A tender for metal carting at Whangarata was referred to Mr. Hartley, with power to accept. It was decided to write Mr. Potter. Whangarata. asking for a guarantee that the work would be carried ont as promised. On receipt of the same the works on Ewing's Hill will, be carried out according to the engineer's plans. Tbe chairman was authorise* to expend the grant on Goldie's Hill. Messrs. Bonlston Bros, are to be asked to form the road from new Pukekohe Station to Yates' boundary, as per specification. Several ratepayers were notified to clear noikras weeds from their frontages. Tbe question of merging in Franklin County Council was discussed and as the ratepayers must decide the matter It was decided to circulate petitions for signatures. Mr. Routly (engineer) wrote certifying to

completion of culvert on Tuakau-Wbanga-rata Road. Same was passed for payment Feed is becoming rather scarce, owing to prolonged drought, and consequently the supply of milk to the factory has shrunk considerably. Farmers who put down soft turnips or maize are now reaping the benefit- One farmer who went in for turnips had the satisfaction of a rise of 1001b milk per day from 28 cows after feeding judiciously with turnips. Potatoes continue to be sent away from tbe district in considerable quantity. The returns from the tubers are very satisfactory, and as the crop has been a good one It is anticipated a larger acreage will fe e planted next season. Late planted tnbers for seed purposes are, notwithstanding the drought, looking wen, but the crop win probably be a light one. Properties continue to change hands. Mr H. H- D. WHy has disposed of his farnL Mr. R. H. Hunter, of Whangarei. is moving into the house on the old seed farm lately occupied by Mr. Allan. Mr. F. Sonster is to occupy his property at "The KnoUg" and a new house is to be built for Mr Stayte at tbe corner of Bombay Road' The contractor (Mr. Bowe, of OnaSmna) has the scantling erected of Mr Driver's new residence at the station.
