THE SLAGHTERMAN'S STRIKE.
(To the Editor.j Sir, —I see that one freezing company at Wellington has conceded the men's demands. It seems strange that the other companies will not also fall in line with the Wellington company which I have mentioned. Is it 'because the company I have referred to comprises small farmers, and that they cannot afford to fall in with the large runholders? Or is it an autocratic position one man is taking up just for the sake of saying " I beat labour"? Seemingly to the onlooker it would appear that the other companies have large runholders connected with them, and that the large runholdors can afford to allow their stock to graze. If the above should prove to be the case, and that an autocratic attitude is being taken up, then I am sorry for the small farmers. To give in to the slaughtermen, perhaps, would be the best in the long run, where the small farmers are concerned, rather than, perhaps suit an autocracy which wonld not be ruined the same as small farmers. —I am, etc., A MINER.
