— » —"" -Mr Percy Herman, of Chris.lcb.urch, is at present on a visit to Auckland. The Hon. W. W. McCardle, M.L.C., leit for the South by the second express last -evening. Mr Clement L. Wragge, the meteorologist, returned to New Zealand by the Victoria from Sydney yesterday. ■Mr D. V. Allen, Director of the Zeeboai School of Mines in Tasmania, is at preuejit spending a holiday in Auckland.] Sir .John and Lady Findlay are passengers by the Moeraki, which left Sydney to-day for Wellington. The health of the Hon J. A. Millar, M.P. for Dunedin West, has so much improved that he expects to be able to attend Parliament next session. Capt. and Mrs Dawson and family, of Wellington, arrive by the Main Trunk th-s afternoon to spend their Christmas holidays in Auckland. Mr Justice Cooper, who. with Mr Justice Edwards, has been presiding at the Supreme Court here for some time, left by the Mokoia for Wellington on Saturday. Last Friday night Mr R. Mounsey was the recipient of a case of carvers from his fellow railway employees at Onehunga. Mr Mounsey has severed his connection with the locomotive department. The presentation was made by Mr W. Cole, station master. Mr James H. Stevens (Inspector of Post Offices) has decided to retire from the service on March 31st, and has been granted three months' leave from the Ist January. He has arranged to take up work of a special nature for a mercantile firm.—(Press Association.) The Wellington Catholic clergy have received a letter from his Crace Archbishop Redwood, dated Washington, 14th November. His Grace hoped to leave New York for Liverpool a week after that date, ajid it is considered probable that he will reach Roane about the end cf the year. The Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey) will probably leave Wellington for Auckland during the second week in January, visit Daragaville, and inspect the Waiporia forest. While in the North. Mr Massey will also pay a visit to the Taupo district, to investigate the proposed extension of the Taupo Totara Timber Company's private line, and, in addition, a visit will be made to the Hauraki Plain*. Early this week, probably on Tiies-d'iv, the Hons. W. H. Merries and \V. Fraser will leave Wellington for Auckland, arriving in the Northern city on Christmas morning. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher will sitay "in Auckland for the Christmas holidays.
