I ] , ■ EXALT. I This mine is situated on the eartern , slope of the main Tokatea Range, approximately four miles from the saddle of the Tokatea Hill of the CoromandelKennedy Bay Road. It was originally , prospected by Messrs. McNeil, and j had Tecently been; acquired by Messrs. s Petrie Brothers, and a syn- J dicate in Auckland. The drive , is in 60ft., and for half that distance < nothing was met with. The other half • has been carrying a little gold, up ( to the .face, from which the manager 5 states he has secured 2olbs. of picked i stone. The reef varie3 from one to four inches in width, with a zig-zag tendency, t and is striking in a south-easterly_direc- 1 tion. A parallel reef is disclosed in the ,j tunnel, which appears to be a branch of the Exalt No. 2. No gold was. met with t for a distance of 30ft., but for the re- < maining distance, viz., 30ft., the lode j has- been carrying colours and dabs of gold in the stone. The average width of 1 the vein producing gold is about 2in. j The reefs are encased in a formation of slate, .carrying mineral and mineral ] .seams. It is intended to crush what ore , ' is in'liand, to prove the value of the ore. Down the creek same several chains another drive has been opened up in the Exalt No. 1, which drive ia in only ' 10ft. The reef is 4in. wide, and gives gold by dish testa. The area of this mine has recently been considerably increased by the present owners, and in one portion about 300 yards west of the j Exalt No. 2 workings, a reef, 9 inches j was picked up outcropping in the creek, which., gives prospects of gold. OCCIDENTAL. CONSOLIDATED. ANOTHER GOOD RETURN. £950 FROM 46 LOADS. A telegram was received late yesterday afternoon from the manager of the Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, giving , the result of the crushing as follows:—"Crushed 46 loads of general ore, and' 2601b5. of picked stone for a return-of 355 ozs. of melted gold. Clean up not finished." A further telegram was received' this ■morning from, the I manager, giving the value of the bullion ias 53/7 per oz.. which makes the total of the yield £950.
