The Rev. Jas. McKee will be a passenger for Sydney by the Wdmmera on Monday. Mr. Arnold has been appointed inspector of factories in the Otago district.—■ Press Association. Mr. Arthur Rees, of Gisboroe, arrived by the Southern boat this morning, and is staying at "Cargen." Mr. E. J. Prendergaet, of tke legal firm of Devore and Prendergast, ie leaving by the Winunera, on a risit to Australia, on Monday. The Hon. W. Fraser, Minister of Public Works, leaves here on Tuesday for Auckland, and will go over the - East Coast railway route before returning. Mr George Nathan, -of Wellington, arrived on a visit this morning, and while in Auckland is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr and Mrs P. A. Herman, and Miss Herman, of C'bristchuich, arrived by the Main Trunk train this morning, and are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr Cyril llahony, of the office of Mi Edmund Mahony, Shorthand Street, has been advised that he hae passed his solicitorr final law examination. Mr. J. H. Howitt, C.E. of the Engineers' staff at Wellington, has been appointed as engineer to the Timani Borough Council from 22 applicants, at a salary of £400 a year —Press Association. Mr. James F. McKenna, of Auckland, was the recipient to-day of a handsome momentn from the staff of the Government Valuation Department, on tie occasion of his approaching marriage. The " Gazette" announces that Lieut. Xorman Hujrh Hanna, 15th " (Xorfn Auckland) Regiment, is transferred to ihe 3rd (Auckland) Regiment ("Countess of Ranfurly's Ovtn") , coast defence detachment, as lieutenant. The Rev. H. H. Robjohns, General Secretary of the Auckland Central Committee of the Bible in State Schools League, will leave Auckland on the 31st inst.", for a holiday in Ha-wke's Bay. He will return on the 26th January. Mr H. Beauehamp, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, arrived in Auckland by the Main Trunk train this morning, accompanied by Mts Beauchamp. They are stopping at the Grand Hotf ■ till Monday, when they leave to L-pend a holiday at Waiwera.
