CANCELLATION OF CONTRACT. WORK TO BE CONTINUED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WETjLIKCtTOX. Friday. Cabinet to-day decided, in accordance ■with the ret-ommend-atioiiß of the Parliamentary Committee that, inquired into the position of Messrs McLean Broe. in relation to the Otira tunne! works, to cancel the contract. M&ssrs McLean will carry on the work till Xmo«, then the Public Works Department, will take it orer and continue operations. Subsequently frcc*h tenders will he invited for completion of the- UDde.rt-Hfciag. Tending the. acceptance of such tender the Government will keep the work going.
