HARBOUR BOARD.
The Auckland Harbonr heard met yes- ' terday afternoon. Present: Messrs. J. H. ! Gunson (chairman), H. D. Heather, A. [ Kayes, P. Virtue, J. Bagley, J. K. Kneen, jW. E. Hatchlson, J. E. Taylor, J. H. Bradney, M.P., E. W. Alison, A. J. EnI trican, Fisher, and Bond, I A FORESHORE DISPUTE. A letter from the Defence Department stated tbat some trouble had been experienced in tbe past with Mr. A. Watson, f' -whose property intervenes between the . ■ Defence Reserve, formerly used as a sub- , marine mining depot, and the Fort Caatley . Reserve, and who ordered members of tbe : : Royal N.Z. Artillery off the ground between i high and low water mark while in the execution of their dnty. Provided, therefore, die Board had no objection, H was proposed to take, under c the Public Works Act, for defence purposes, the whole of the foreshore fronting Mr. Watson's section. Information was accordingly sought as to Mr. Watson's t position, and whether he held any special 1 license or lease of any part of the fore- - shore from the Board. "I The chairman moved: "That the Board r object to the transference of the freehold s to the Department, that the Department i be Informed that Mr. Watson holds no c rights from the Board orer the foreshore. - and that the Board has no objection to s the Department using the foreshore, proI Tiding the freehold rights of the Board 3 are not interfered with."—Carried. DEVONPORT FERRY TBE. The engineer, reporting on the complaint respecting the state of the decking at the j- Devonport Ferry tee, stated that the wood , blocking was old and decayed, but that J attention was being given to it, and inJ strnctioue had been again issned to have 5 any hollows made good at once. BIRKDALE WHABF. A letter from the Town Clerk of Blrkenhead drew attention to the dangerous state i of the low tending at the Birkdale wharf, Sj suggesting a hand-rail to assist passengers - when alighting on the slippery steps. i. I Another letter from a resident requested i; the Board to receive a depntation to hear 3 views regarding a proposal for the erection i of a new wharf and an alternative proposal.—Referred to committee, the traffic manager to reaort. c ST. HELIER'S WHABF. 3 A letter from the clerk of the Tamakl ,i West Road Board drew attention to the c ! inadequate lighting on the St. Heller's Bay wharf at night, on some nights the present ~ light being indistinguishable at a short distance, with the consequent danger of t vessels running into the wharf.—Referred j. to the Board In committee, traffic manager g to report. * CHARGES FOR UP-RIVER WHARVES. A complaint by Mr. T. Hunter that hie launches are charged unfair rates for the g use of up-river wharves was referred to U a sub-committee, consisting of the chalri man and Messrs.
