HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The following Is the High Commissioner's cable, dated London. December 14th (quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):— Mutton.—The market is firm, stocks in hand being, light and firmly held in few hands. High prices are restricting business. Canterbury, 4Jd; North Island, 4Jd. Lamb.—There is good demand for all lamb, with small supplies of New Zealand and Australian. Supplies increasing. Canterbury, 53d per lb; other than Canterbury, s»d. Beef. —The market is firm, with more inquiry. Stocks of New Zealand on band are light. New Zealand hindquarters. 3Jd; fores. 3id. Butter.—The market remains firm, with fair demand for better grades for Christmas trade, but for ordinary quality the market is quiet at advanced values, which are extremely difficult to decide. Choicest New Zealand, 122/ to 120/; ordinary quality, first grade, 117/ to 121/; Australian, 117/; Argentine, 116/; Siberian, 110/; Danish, 131/. Cheese. —The market is quiet but steady. New Zealand white, 61/6; coloured. 02/6. Hemp.—The market is steady and fair business is being done. New Zealand good fair grade, £33; fair grade, £31 10/ for any position; fair current Manila, £33; forward shipment. £34. Wool.—The market is strong. LONDON MARKETS.
