Mts John Fuller, sen., leaves -this evening on an extensive holiday visit through the Southern cities. Mr C. G. Hill, of Auckland, returned by the Maheno yesterday from a tour of the British Isles. Mr. C. A. Piper, railway traffic superintendent, arrived in Auckland yesterday, and is staying at Cargen. Mr H. W. Pilcher, of the Wellington staff of the United Insurance Company, has been promotted to the Auckland office. Mr W. J. Rees, of Ponsonby, atnd his daughter, Mies G. Rees, returned by the Maheno yesterday, after a lengthy visit to Great Britain. News was received by cable this morning of tube death in Sydney, from appendicitis, of Mr Alex. Phdllipps, son-in-law of Mr A. E. Glover, MJ. Mr George Elliott, chairman of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, leaves, with Mrs Elliott, by the Maheno this evening on a holiday visit to Australia. Mr. and Mrs. Smerdon and Miss Smerdon, of Parnell, who have been on an extended tour of the Old Country, returned on Sunday by the steamer Maheno. M easts Grant, Wyroand, and F. A. Sytmonds, and Mrs and Miss Parker, of Sydney, were arri vials by the Maheno yesterday, and are stopping at the Central Hotel. Mr J. Baragwanahh. Mayor of South Melbourne, arrived with the South Melbourne Cricket team, of which ctab he is pnestktenit, by the Mniben-c yesterday, on a tour of ifche Dozninioin. Mr S. Falconer, Mass D. Falconer, and Mr P. .7. Patereon, visitors from London, arrived by the Maheno yesterday, to ■fcottr the Dominion. a*id ore at present staying at the Central Hotel. Messrs G. C. Griffith and A. W. Robertson, of Melbourne, were passengers by ,the Maheno from Sydney yesterday on « holiday visit to the Dominion, ami are at present stopping at the Grand Hotel. Mr A. Glover. MJ\, this morning received a telegram from the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, Minister for Marine and Customs, stating -that he will arrive in Auckland by the earrly train on Wednesday morning. Messrs Andrew Black and Walter Whybe. who have been engaged to take leading parts in the Auckland Choral Societyis prodfuefckm of "The Messiah," arrived by the Maheno from Sydney yesterday. Mr Black, who is accompanied by Mrs Black, is staying at the Grand Hotel during- has visit. Mr BramweM Booth, the new General of the Salvation Army, Iras promoted Colonel D. C. Lamb to the rank of Commissioner, and appointed him one of •the Army's i-rntemational secretaries for supervision of work in Canada. Newfoundland, Australia and New Zealand. He will continue to direct the emigration department, with which he has been associated for ten years.
