MATERNITY MATTERS.
FREE TRAINING FOR NURSES.
In July last the l>epartment of Hospitals notified its decision to accept two pupils in each term for free midwifery training in each of the St. Helens Hospitals. At the meeting of the Hospital Board last night a letter was received from "the lnspector-Oenera.l of Hospitals (Dr. Valintine) drawing attention to the advisability of action being taken by the Board to define in what localities such nurses should serve their tivo years under the Board when they h.-ul received their training. It was also suggested that arrangements should be made in connection with guarantees, subsidies, or salaries in the ca-ses of nurses located in districts where there was not sufficient _>cope to enable them to obtain a fair remuneration for their work. Dr. Valintine mentioned that some -boards had taken no action beyond the actual •training of the pupils.
The matter was referred to the Chari table Aid Committee for a report.
