NEW MATERNITY HOME.
BUILDIVG FOR SALVATION ARMY. In the course of a. conversation with Commiesi&ner Richards this morning, a prec*3man was informed that a start has already been made with the erection of the new Salvation Army Maternity Home at Owens Road, Grey Lynn. ""This Home/ said the Commiseioner. "will, like St. Helens Home, take in paying patients, but, unlike that institution, we aleo propose to receive patients who are unable to afford to pay anything. Maternity Homes have been in operation under the Army for many years, and our aim in this department of our work is to help alike the needy as well as othere. The poor woman, who pays nothing, will receive equal i treatment with her who can afford to pay in full; in fact, if we have, say, one vacant bed left, and two women "apply, the poor one probably gets the preference. The new Home "we are building at Grey Lynn will accommodate about 40 at first, with provision for enlargement. In fact, I have bought an additional section adjoining the new Home this week with that in view."
