BRITISH SHIPPING COMBINE.
XTNTOtTRDED RTXMOXTOS. (Received 10-20 a.m.) LONDON. December 10. At a meeting of the Peninsular and Oriental Company the chairman, Sir Thomas Strtherla-nd, said that there was absolutely no truth in the rumours of amalgamation. There had never been any negotiations. It was reported a month ago by the "Daiiv Telegraph's^ , correspondent that negotiations were proceeding for a combination of the P. and O-, Cunard. Boyal Mail Pa 'vet. Union Castle, and British India o mpanies. but the report was denied at che time of its publication- There were, however, sharp share fluctuations as a result of the rumour.
