There was a vigorous debate on the proposal to establish a separate Irish postal system, which was, carried :>v a majority of 79 votes after an assuran* had been piven by Sir Rufus Isaacs (Attornoy-Genrral that the control of the Irish Post Office could in wartime be secured to the Imperial Parliament by Ordcr-in-Council. Sir Edward Carson ridiculed the idea that an Order-in-Council could give control of the Irish telejjraphs in wartime. Hb taunted the Government with giving a-quarter of a million pounds to Ireland to establish a local postal system.
