IRISH LAND BILL.
SCORE IMPORTANT THAN HOME RULE. MR BLRRELL'S VIEW. LONDON, October 17. During the discussion on the Home Rule Bill in the House of Commons yesterday. Mr A. Birrell (Chief Secretary for Ireland) declared that the completion of the Irish land purchase scheme was more important than the Home Rule Bill. Two-thirds of the task, he said, was already accomplished. , Mr J. Redmond (leader of the Nationalist party) took' exception to Mr BirTelFs statement. Mr W. O'Brien (leader of the Independent Nationalists) moved an amendment to the effect that the land purchase scheme be omitted from the Irish Parliament's purview, and also to prevent it, for the first three years, from legislating in connection with land, except for purchases for railways and public works. The amendment was negatived.
