The Australians met an eleven chosen oy Lord Londesborough at Scarborough to-day. The teams were as follow:— Londesborough's Eleven.—Ranjiteinhji (captain), Spooner, Douglas, Jessop, Bird, Hirst, Denton, Rhodes, Haieh, A E. Relf, Mead. Australia.—Gregory (captain), Bardeley* Kelleway, Macartney, Smith, Mayne, Minnett, Matthews, Whitty, Carkeek, Ha/.litt. The weather was fine, but a strong breeze was blowing, and th e wicket was in good order. The attendance numbered 6,000. Ranjitsinhji won the toss and decided to bat first. A bad start was made, Spooner being l>owled before reaching double figures. Mead and Rhodes added 32 for the second wicket, and Rhodes and Denton 41 for the third. A feature of the innings was the stand made by tire "tail," Haigh and Relf adding 130 for the ninth wicket. Rhodes gave a masterly display for 135 minutes, during which he made 51. Relf gave a chance before fie had scored to Carkeek, and at 70 another in the deepfield to Smith. He ptoyrd brilliantly towaVds the finish. The second century was hoisted in 22. r > minutes.
