UNITED LABOUR PARTY.
DISTHICT COTJTTCIL MEETDTG. HON. G. FOWLDS TKESIDEXT. A meeting of the district council of the Vr.ited Labonr party was held Siet evening, when the Hon." George Fowlds, who was recently elected president of the ' Auckland district, took his Seat. Mr T. Henry, the retiring president, in welcoming Mr Fowlds to' the office, referred to the good work done by that gentleman in the matter of organising the United Labour party, and also spoke eulogistically of the stand always taken by him in politics. He felt honoured at I having the opportunity of welcoming Mr >; Fowlds as their president. (Applause.) j T'pon assuming the chair, Mr Fowlds said he was honoured in having been ' elected to the presidency, hut in accept- ' ing the. position it was not so much the 1 1 honour that appealed to him as the I opportunity of being of service to the "I United Labour party, which tsp rapidly j heeoniinf; the most potent political farI tor in t!i" country. Mr Fowlds went on to say that the Conservative elements would find their place, -while the Radical clement? ■would be found either in the United . Labour party, or actively supporting it With a little active organisation an<s concerted action, there was no reason why a majority of supporters of th< ' United Labour party should not be re i turned at the next general election (Applause..) Three more unions joined the party a and their delegates were warmly wel corned by the president. s ' ——. ,
