Considerable, conservation was caused , in the bars of the V»uke of hdinburgh , and New Zealand Hotels thin afternoon. '. by the arrest of two men alleged to be | bookmakers. Senior-Sergeant Ilutledge I visited the first-mentioned hotel, and arrested Henry Wales, and nt the same hour Detect Cassels wcnl to the Sew | Zealand Hotel and apprehended P. Le Spur. When searched Wales was found ! to havp over £88 in his possession, whilst I Le Seur had £17. They ■were brought before Mr. W. (i. RidtMl. S.M., at four o'clock, an<Pchar«red that being bookmakers they each made a bet with one Cb&s. Smyth. They pleaded not guilty, and were remanded till next Wednesday. Bail in £20 each was allowed, and was irnnic- | dintely forthcoming. I
