Mr. G. W. Hutchison lias been elected to represent Auckland'on the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. Mr Thos. Brown, of Thos. Brown, LtdChristchurch, arrived from the. south by the Mokoia to-day. Mr. Robert Lee has been re-elected chairman of the Wellington Education I Board. The Rev. Canon Garland, organiser under the Bible in State Schools League, has returned to Wellington, . after- a visit to Christchurch, made in the intersts of the movement. Mr. Frank Weaver, who came to New Zealand in the early eighties from America to conduct the first oil-boring operations at Poverty Bay, died at Gisborne on Friday last. The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), who has been presiding at the civil sittings of the Supreme Court, left Auckland by the express last night. Mr M. H. Browne, chief director of manual and technical instruction, has been placed in charge of the junior cadets, vice Captain E. S. Stevens, who has assumed charge of a Territorial area at Hawera. The Baroness yon Steenwik, and Miss T. Aberorombie, who have been touring the Dominion, arrived from the south by the Main Trunk express this morning. They leave for Vancouver by the Zealandia. to-morrow. The Hon. Maurice Baring, who is - tSe guest of Lord Islington at Government House, Wellington, was to have been the guest of the New Zealand Club at luncheon yesterday. The retirement of Mt. Thomas Ronayne from the New Zealand Railway Department will take place next January. Mir. Ronayne entered the Public Service thirty-seven years ago, and has been General Manager of Railways for the past seventeen years. The Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) is president, ex-officio, of the Auckland Regatta Committee, and yesterday he was made the . recipient from the committee of a shield containing the photographs of the members of the committee, in recognition of the valuable serricee he rendered in connection with the last regatta. Captain Parker made the presentation, and he was accompanied by Messrs. A. Alison, W. C. Somera, and C. G Dacre. The Mayor suitably acknowledged the gift, which, he slid, was a pleasant surprise to him.
