EDUCATION IN IRELAND.
EFFECT OF ROME RUXE. LONDON, August 28. The National Education Commissioners in Ireland, composed of both Protestants and Roman Catholics, being unable to obtain an interview with the Prime Minister (Mr. Asquith) or Mr. Birrell (Chief Secretary for Ireland) in connection with the question of provision for primary education under the Home Rule Bill, have communicated a memorandum to the Press, showing that the expenses of the Department are increasing automatically. Urgent reforms are long overdue, and yet under the bill the existing position will be stereotyped. Normal development and administration, it is stated, will cease unless the Home Rule Government effects savings in other public departments or imposes fresh taxation on the Irish taxpayers.
