SUSSEX MATCH DRAWN. MACARTNEY SCORES A DOUBLE CENTURY. MATTHEWS IN FORM. (By Cable.— Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, Jury 27. The match between the Australians and Sussex was drawn. The weather was fine, and l the wicket fast, and there was an attendance of 2000. The Australians' second innings was , productive of interesting and vigorous ; batting. Macartney was the hero of the day. Besides adding another three-figure score to his list be bowled well. He batted for 140 minutes, reached 50 in 60 minutes and the century in 105 minutes. His exhibition was brilliant all round, and especially good was his fine driving and late cutting. Macartney's innings included 20 fours. His play was marred by chances at 89 and 116. With Kelleway, Macartney put on 160 runs. The century was reached in 75 minutes, and 200 was brought up in 140 minutes. Kelleway played for 120 minutes, and scored! 50 " runs in 85 minutes. His innings was sound and faultless. Matthews played for 95 minutes, and played a chancelfess, resolute innings. He hit 13 fours, and scored 50 in 55 minutes. Gregory's play was fast, and good, and he scored a run a minute. Numerous changes were made in the bowling. Vine secured: the bowling honours. With a total of 338 for seven wickets Australia, declared its innings closed. Sussex then batted, and when the end of the playing time came two wickets had fallen for 101 run;-. Vine and R. WIN FOR SOUTH AFRICA. IRELAND EASILY DEFEATED. LONDON, July 27. South Africa defeated Ireland at Dublin by an innings and 167 runs. In their first innings the South Africans made 395—Nourse 113. Ireland's second innings produced ITS runs. Bowling analysis: Taylor ono wicket for 14 runs, Carter five for 44, Faulkner four for 18, White none for 27, Nourse none for 1. COUNTY CRICKET. LONDON, Jury 28. Yorkshire beat Hampshire by nine wickets. Denton made 191, Fry 186, and E. Barrett (not out) 120. Warwickshire beat Middlesex by 118 runs. The Essex v. Lancashire match was drawn, J. W. H. T. Douglas scoring 109, J- Tyldesley 143, and W. Tvldesley (not out) 114. The sixth test, between England and Australia, commences at Manchester today. Barnes .was not included in the team cabled out last week, but that was a telegraphic error, and he will be found leading the attack.
