BOXING CONTESTS.
(To the Editor.! Sir, — think that the opinions of Mt. J/eckie, published, in Tuesday's " Star " re the recent boxing championships, 1 will bo endorsed by most followers of I lie noble art. One. can understand the ! third man in the ring making a mistake i now and again, but some of the verdicts given lately by the officials concerned are most inconsistent in their rulings. Mr. ljeckie deplores the lack of science exhibltetd in the championships. This i≤ easily explained by the fa-ct that the majority of glove-wieldera in Auckland are developing the knockout punch at the expense of the "pretty i stuff."' full well knowing that to obtain ! a decision on points is well nigh impossible unless one is an absolute marvel. Would it be a£3tins.t the rules of the N.15.A. to import a competent man to (dispense points for the hit, slop and : pet-away game, it they have not, a competent man on hand?— am. etc., ANTI-WOWSER.
