LACROSSE.

The chief attraction on Saturday last was the meeting of Poneonby and Grafton, but, contrary to the Grafton colts had no difficulty in winning by six goals to one. Grafton deserved their win, as hard training and combination played a big part in the success of this, as in previous matches. For the winners, it is hard to individualise, as the colts all played up to their usual standard. For Ponsonby. Woolrams on the .attack, Blomneld and Kelly in the defence, and Edwards in goal, were, perhaps, the beat of a fairly even lot- Mr. J. Maxwell controlled the game in his usual efficient manner. The Auckland and West End's match at the Domain comes in for little comment, as, after only a moderate exhibition of lacrosse, these two teams drew. The Wellington representatives play Auckland at Victoria Park on August 3rd for the Proud Shield. This shield ■will be on exhibition in Mr. J. S. Dickson's window next Saturday, and it is considered the best shield ever donated ■to a sporting body in the Dominion. The championship matches -will be concluded on Saturday next, but tihe results cannot effect the final positions o>f the teams, ■which are as foHows:— I'lyd. Won. Dm. Lost. L?et year this team, which is chiefly r-wtiposrd of young players, was prac--tfr'alh- at the bottom of the list, but practice, combination and training played its part in this year's contest, and this contributed greatly to the dowafall of their older opponent*.
