MT. EDE3T. A special and ordinary meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council was held lust evening, those present being Mr O. Nicholson (Mayor), Councillors .1. Davis, S. G. Bnrns, D. Meikle. J. !'. llooton, .1. W. .lones. C. Hudson. K. 11. Potter, 11. A. Seabrook, \V. Woolley, and B. Vales.
1 tales.—The rates for the ensuing your were decided upon as follows:—Hospital nnd charitable aid rate, '-'id in the pound; Auckland and suburban drainage rate. 1(1 in the pound: rates on Hums Nos. 4. 3, and <! will be --'id. id. an' l j'l respectively, and on water districts Nos. 1 and 2, lid and l.d in the pound. A special rate of (id in vie pound will be levied to provide the interest anil sinking fund on tie loan of £42,030 raised by the Council for street improvements, and the erection of municipal buildings.
Tenders.-Tenders for work on Dominionroad were 1.1. S. Wilson (£GT)OO 14/41 and J. A. Kndonn (£G»~:i 15/S). The matter was referred to the Streets Committee.
Blasting Operations.—Complaints were received from a resident of Normanby-road concerning Ilie Inconvenience caused by blasting operations in connection with Messrs .T. .1. Crate =md (-o.s operalions. As no permit hud bix-n issued by the Council, itu solicitors were instructed to Erection of a iPtablc—A petti ion was received from residents in the vicinity of Mount EUen-road and Oaldnnds-road protesting against a permit being issued for Ilie erection of a stable. The Council notified that ii was tlu-ir Intention to refuse any such permit. Names of Roads. —Among the correspondence was a letter from Mr A. E. Bagnall asking that the n-.ime of the Epsom-Mount Albert-road be (.-banged w-ltbin the Mount Eden borough. The name of ißalmoral-road will he submitted I" residents for approval. lighting.— The request for a gas lamp in Croyrlon-road was (.ranted, and several otter requests made by conncillors will be attended lo by the Streets Committee.

The ■rtenmcra Road Board met Inst evening, when there were present:—Messrs J. S. Dicksou (chairman). E. Bond, P. Speracer, J. ii. liutaerford. and .1. B. Paterson. Itoad -Koller Driver.—A lanre number ot applications were received for the post ° r driver of the Board's new steam roller, m-anv being from engineers thrown out of work by the WaiM strike. Mr T. Chandler was the successful applicant. Greenlanc Improvement. —The plans and levels for the improvement of (.reetilnnc were received, and the matter was deferred fcr two ■monllis on account vif the unsiiltability of the winter for starting such work. 'Building By-laws.—Adverse ccenmcut was made on the erection of an iron shed (for use as a enrnc-nter's shopl iv v, prominent position on the main road. It was explained that the Board's by-laws gave no control over Die erection of buildings -other than shops and dwellings, and the Board re-colv-ed to have a by-law drafted, giving control over all classes of bnildiugA It wnn aiso decided that .lenceiorwiird* all applications for building permits shonlil come before the Rnnrd for its consideration. Appointment of Kngineer.--Mr li.
