FERRY TIME-TABLE.
DEPUTATION TO THE COMPANY. The desirability of extending the halfJitwrly ferry service, which is maintained daring the daytime between Auckland and Birkenhead and Northcote till midnight was tho subject, of a deputation to the of driectors of the Devonport Ferry Company (Mr. E. W. Alison) yesterday. Messrs. A-reh. Campbell, Arthur E. Greenslade, and James T. Pearnley represented the Northcote Borough Council, and Messrs. William Wallace (Mayor), and A. L. White (Town Clerk), and Jas. P. MeFhail were present for the Birkenhead Borough Council.
It was pointed out that the running of the ferries at night was inconvenient for theatre-goers returning from Auckland. Mri Alison said that he found that in order, to run -the half-hourly service till midnight it would be necessary to employ another crew for the boat. He would endeavour, however, to make an arrangement that would meet with the approval of the residents, and amended time-tables would be submitted to the Councils; or, again, it was possible that the company would arrange for special theatre trips. ,In replying to Mr. Wallace, who had expressed appreciation of the improvement in the cargo and vehicular service, *r. Alison said that in about eight months' time still further improvements *onld be made in the shape of a -vehicular staging at tiro Northcote wharf.
