Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, arrived at Te A«mutu by the Main Trunk express thi3 morning. The Rev. Woollass and Mr. J. B. Teasdale drove him to the proposed new school site, and showed him the present grounds, which, as pointed out, are most unsuitable. The Minister promised his .assistance 'when proper representations had been made. Messrs. Yon Stunner and Teasdale, on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, showed the Minister over native property in the heart of the town, and pointed out that it was impossible to subdivide it on account of its uncertain title. They asked that the. property should be acquired by the Government, and included in the Teasdale settlement block. The Minister advised that a letter be sent to him, stating their requirements, and promised his assistance. Messrs. Lesueur and Potts, on behalf of the Waipa Racing Club, asked for a permit for a picnic meeting, and that the club should be considered when any more tptalisator permits were being granted. The request for a picnic meeting was granted, and the Minister gave an assurance that the club would not be overlooked when further totalisator permits were considered. Afterwards the Minister drove to Ohaupo, and officially opened the new Council Chambers. Mr. John Fisher, chairman. of the Cbunty Council, and other representatives of local bodies, spoke, and Mr. J. A. Young, MJ?., also addressed the assemblage.

A banquet was subsequently held in the Ohaupo Hotel, and an appropriate toast list was honoured.

Several deputations waited upon the Minister.

The Minister subsequently left for Hamilton to address a meeting.
