MEETINGS.
1 BIRKENHEAD AND NORTHCOTB MUSICAL SOCIETY. There was a large audience present at the second concert held last evening by the above society in the Foresters' Ha:ll at R__.enhead. An excellent programme was gone through consisting of the following items:—Part songs, (a) '"God Save the King," (.b) "England,'' Society; song, "Vulcan's Song," Mr R. H. Dellow; song. "Nearer, My God. to Thee. - ' 'Mr Wilfred Manning; song, "Sognaf," Miss Elizabeth Knight; part song, "Moonlight and Music," 1 Society; humorous reading, M* Hugh Patirick; song- "A Russian Cove So_"gr"-_r _ R. H. Dellow; songs, (a) "Jeunesse," (bi "Golden Dawn,'' Miss 'E.l__beth- Knight; song Miss J. Bartlett;- songs, (aj "Xafe's Epitome," (b) "The Silver Ring." Mr H. W. Manning; part song, "To the Death," \ Society. The encores -were numerous. Mr jW. T. Sharp conducted, and the piano a-c- ---/ cpmpanizneflts were played by Miss Sharp.

The first monthly meeting of the newly, formed Auckland Philatelic Society, .took: place. last evening in the Sports -Chib. i_ John Kcnderdine presided. It was announced that. the following gentlemen had accepted office:—Patron, Hon. A M. president, Mr C. E. Major; vice-president. Mr W. G. Fletcher. Ir was agreed that the monthly meetings be held in future on Fridays. On the evening of the '12th: of July there wjll be an exhibition of New Zealand stamps by the members... GREY LYNN YOUNG MEN'S CLCB. A meeting of members was held in the clubroom. Great North-road, last evening; Mr. Carr presiding. Mr. Brinsden was elected, president. Mr. Bergin ..secretary- and treasurer, and the following were elected to the executive committee: Messrs. Somervell. 'Ness, and Ramsay. Two more are -to be added later. Working committees were also appointed. Regret -was expressed that Sir. Carr could not continue in_ofßce. , .— . DICKENS' F/NTE__TAIN3i_-NT. ' A Charles. Dickens' entertainment was ■given in Grange-road. Baptist Church la&t night by Mr Horace H. Hunt, to a most appreciative audience,. The lecturer gave some interesting, remaxks as to the characteristics of the author's writings and the truly Christian spirit pervading the whole of his works. Mr Hunt then gave a graphicrepresentation of "A Christmas-Carol." the varied points of which interesting life story were vividly portrayed; the sentimental, ■humorous, and pathetic each receiving an excellent rendering ia the- lecturer's capable hands.
