DELIRIUM TREMENS.
WHO PATS FO ETBEATXESII GOT__-___?T TO BE DEBITED. The problem of financing the treat ment of delirium tremens patients __ given the Hospital Board concern on re> peated occasions. Very often persons so suffering who find themselves in dm, ance vile require hospital treatment, and usually they are not in a position to pay for it. Tbe Hospital Board 1 wrote recently to the Inspector-General of Hospitals (Dr Talintine) in connection.-'with the matter, and a reply was; read; this morning to members of the Board in committee. The writer said he could only refer the Board to a circnlar.issned by the department in September, 1907, over the signature of the Minister then in charge (the Hon. Geo. Powlds),. This stated that the Government was,-pre-pared to erect in the large centres suitable wards for the treatment of alcoholic cases. In the meantime, however, hospital boards in the principal centres were requested to provide .for--their treatment, and the department would undertake to pay the full cost of the maintenance of such patients. Mr P. M. Macky said that the ißo_r_ had not taken advantage of the su<.e_. tion, and the payments might ' .erefore not now he available. . • '-- It was unanimously resolved-" to. debit the Government for the eases dealt-'with during the last six months. ..".:_
