Zcalandia Jor Vancouver in the afternoon. They arrived in this country from Australia a fortnight ago. and while in Wellingtoa were tire guests of his Excellency the Governor and Lady Islington. They were received on their arrival in Auckland by Lteut.-Col'onel Boscawen, hon. A-D.C. In conversation with a reporter, Lord 3fassereene said that he had undertaken a tour of Australasia £or the benefit of his health. He had spent some two months in the Commonwealth, and during his short ! stay in New Zealand had been mostly in theßangitata district of Canterbury. The sheep country of the Canterbury Plains struck him as being particularly fine, though be noted that the price of good asriraJtural laud was decidedly high in the Dominion —much, higher than in England. He had not seen any of the regular toarist resorts, and had had no opportunity of seeing nraeh of the North Island. The towns which he had seen s-truek him as being busy, and here his Lordship laughingly added that he cottld not commend tho climate of Wellington. While there he witnessed the review of seotrcs and cadets, called for the benefit of I/ieut.-General Baden-Powell, and was nrueb pleased with what ho saw. He had much admired the fine heads of deer to be seen in the "Wellington Clnb, but did not know whether he should be able to return to "Sew Zealand in the future on a longer visit and some sport. On his present tonr he intended to spend n few -weeks in Canada before returning to England. Lord Massereene and Ferrard is the twelfth holder of the title, and is 3D years of age- He served with the I7th Lancers in South Africa, gaining the > D.S.O. He owns some 16,000 acres, and scats in County Antrim and County Loath, Ireland.
