The Australians beat M.C.C. to-day by five wickets. In their second innings M.C.C, who had lost four wickets for 244, carried to« total to 323 before the last wicket fell, leaving Australia with 167 to get to win, a total which they hit off for the loss of five wickets. The weather was fine and the wicket hard, while the attendance totalled 2000. Kelleway and Hazlitt bowled to the not outs, Mrad (61) and Perrin (8). The first ball from Kelleway removed Mead's leg stump. His score included a sixer and five fourers. Burns, who followed, made 24, and then lost his wicket in batting across a long hop from Kelleway. Seven for 272. Webster dismissed Tyittlejohn with a smart catch off Kelleway, and Thompson was taken brilliantly by Hazlitt low down at short, leg. The batsman was dissatisfied with the decision. Brown reached double figures, and lost his wicket trying to turn Emery. Perrin carried his bat for 32, made by sound cricket in 80 minutes. The innings lasted 275 minutes. Many no balls were bowled, and several were scored from, 14 of the extras being hit off no-balls. The Australians' second innings opened badly. Gregory was snapped up at second slip by Littlejohn off Thompson without scoring. Showers stopped play for a few minutes, and on resuming Macartney played on one from Thompson, after making 20 by brilliant cutting. Mayne was dismissed by a brilliant high left-handed catch by Brown off Douglas. Bardsley was bowled in attempting to hit Littlejohn to leg. His off-driving was good. Minnett's driving and leg-hitting were fine, but his innings was marred by chances at 2 to Brown at the wickets and 21 to Thompson off Douglas. He hit ten fours. At 64 ha was bowled by Littlejohn.
