LESLIE ORPHANAGE.

' The Leslie Presbyterian Orphanage at Meadowbank, Remuera, which was i opened in October last, with accommodation for 30 children, has now 17 inmates, 12 boys and 5 girls- Further applications have been received which will fill up the boys' dormitory, and the trustees are now moving in the direction of erecting another wing, with dormitories for 30 additional children. The matron and steward are proving very satisfactory, and the children :ire all happy and well cared for. The Board of Education has provided a 'teacher, who conducts a school in the main hall, and children from the neighl>ourhood are allowed to attend. There arc at present 31 scholars in attendance. A strong ladies' committee, consisting of representatives from all the Presbyterian churches in the city and suburbs, has been formed, the members of which take their turn in visiting the orphanage weekly. A ; great many gifts have been received, -including a tow, a horse, sewing machine, provisions, fruit and clothing, for which the trustees' and ladies' committee are very grateful. -The Indies are now anxious to get a piano to help with the Sunday services, which are open to the neighbours. The building is very beautifully situated in twelve acres of land, and commands a line view of the Hauraki Gulf. The greatest interest "in its welfare has been manifested among the churches, and it has every prospect of becoming a successful and beneficent institution. The estimated cost of the proposed new wing-is £2000 at least, am? ■the trustees will be pleased to receive contributions to enable them to carryout this scheme. The secretary is Miss E.
