TAKAPUNA TRAMS.

■ 'A weD-attendecT meeting of Takapuna ratepayers was held in Hall's store last evening to discuss matters relating to the tramway service. Mr. R. Graham presided and explained that the meeting had been called owing to the dissatisfaction that existed with the present time-table. He suggested that a committee be formed to wait upon the tramway directors to discuss the whole matter with them. Mr. W. Duncan moved that a committee consisting of the chairman, Messrs. W. Hall, E. Cresswell-Meredith, Stone, E. Mahony, and the mover be appointed ■. for the purpose suggested by the chair- " man. Mr. CressweU-Meredith seconded the motion. He urged that there be no/ delay in the -matter as business men were suffering owing to the manner in ■which the service was being run. Mr. Mahony instanced the case of the 9.9 ajn. tram which, he said, instead' of leaving at that time, frequently left at 9.28 and made business men late. He contended that the way the company .' was conducting the service was a dis- '":" tinct contravention of the deed of delegation. He especially urged that trams • ■ should run oftener in the mornings and ■*• ' evenings when people were going to and coming from business. Mr. Taylor ('Manager of the Takapuna Tramways Company) said that the company was quite willing to meet th» ratepayers in the matter as soon as it was ascertained definitely what they ■wanted. As 4i matter of fact a number of alterations were already proposed and would be put into operation immediately. For . instance the 9.10 ajn. tram would leave at the usual time, but it had been arranged for (he boat to wait for it; on Saturdays the boat from town would leave at 12.15 p.m. instead of 12.10 p.m. and a tram would leave Milford-road at 7.5 pjn. enabling passengers to- arrive in town at 7.50 p.m. It was decided that Mr. Taylor meet the committee and discuss the whole matter of the time-table with them and that a further meeting of ratepayers be held on 'Monday night next.
