NEW ZEAT__NT> CROWN MINES. MONTH'S RETURN £3614. The return from the Crown Mines, Karangahake for the month of April was £3514, the result of the treatment of 1183 i tons of ore- This -brings rip the total output from the mine to £816,453. WAIHI. The report covering the operations in the mine during tbe four-weekly period ended 16th inst. states that at No. 10 level, in the Martha lode (south section), the south or lhangingwall is well defined. At a point 32L)ft in, a hard flinty quartz commenced to make, averaging about Itt iv width, with occasional veins of quartz making along the north side of the drive. At 302 ft. oft across quarts! and country assayed 5/9, at 320 ft 1/9, and at 320 ft 1/2 per ton. At the 30Oft mark, a crosscut is in progress both north and south, and which will prove beyond doubt if by any chance the lode has faulted; but from present indications the superintendent is inclined to the opinion that the lode has narrowed down, and will again open out as driving proceeds eastward. The country rock is favourable. Westward from No. 5 shaft, north crosscut, the lode is somewhat harder to break. The fallowing sample results have been obtained, in each instance from sft across the reef, with no visible .wails.:At 277 ft worth £1 7/2. at 287 ft 9/1, at 297 ft 10/ I.L at 307 ft 11/3. and at 313 ft 5/9 per ton. On the Empire lode, the east drive is along 302* ft from No. 5 shaft, north crosscut. The lode is very much disturbed and broken, containing veins of psendomorphous <tuarlz. In the west crosscut, at the .150 ft mark. 10ft. of lode Is exposed, with country showing on the north side. The crosscut at 292 ft was continued north-west to 57ft, and nt a distance of _o't In. the -north section of tbe lode was encountered, and which proved to be 22ft wide, worth an average value of 8/2 per ton. The crosscut was also continued south-east to 25fL and the following was passed through: At 2ft hi. quartz sft wide, having a southerly course and worth £_ 16/11 per ton; at 15ft in, quartz 2ift wide, worth —1 17/5 per ton. In the S.S.W. crosscut, from No. 5 shaft, the Royal lode was met, and was 14ft wide, worth an average value of 4/2 per ton. The Edward lode, In the winze. No. 9 level gave tbe following results:-At 30ft down, worth £4 4/7, and at :!7ft, £J. IH/ll per ton: Bass pase. 15/3 per ton; Salmon pass, £1 91. 1/10. 2/11. 6/7, £1 4/8. 2/7. and 1/3 per ton. No. 5 level: Martha footwall gangway has been advanced a total of 08ft east of No. I shaft, north-west crosscut. At 20ft sulphide quartz was root, which exists up to tbe face. The following sample results were obtained: —At 2fift worth £6 13/2 per ton, and at 37ft £1 IS. No. 5 shaft: This has been sunk 87ft below No. 10 level. The full width of the Royal lode, which is 12ft, erposed in the bottom. The flow of water is about 1<)00 gallons per minute. The following sample results have boon obtained from the reef during the progress of sinking:— At 1215 ft from the surface, worth 5/7 per ton, sample taken, from Bft across the reef, with only north wall showing: at 1223 ft down, sample from 10ft across tie reef, north wall only seen, worth 3/1 per ton; nt 1235 ft down, sample from lode 12ft wide nt west end of shaft, 6/11 per ton; sample from lode 12ft wide at east end of shaft at same distance down, 7/11 ■per ton.

MINK MANAGERS' REPORTS. Siherstream. — The Queen drive is along 2- -> /> feet. The country is still difficult to br.-afc. C:oo.l Hope. -The west drive has heen advanced six feet, and the quartz broken down. The reef is gradually increasing ill stze there being now eight indies thick of good mineral quartz. Strong colours of gold are frequently seen through the ore. and rhe manager is vc,-y hopeful of Improved values being met -with. In another 40 feet the drive will reach tie Adelaide tra'ti lire*fc. The rise is up fiv=e feer in hard lilocfcy sandstone. Waiotahl. -At No. 7 level, the rise on the footwall dropper Is now up Trt. "The reef is still of a mullocky character, but an improvement in the country appears to be coming in. 1000 ft level: Tbe main crosscut Is lii the Waiotahi gmnrid 257 ft, leaving nboat 193 ft to drive to reach a point opposite tin- Waiotahl shaft. The .-oantry is si ill of a close nature, and in consequence little or no water Is Issuing from tbe face.
