It is a reproduction of the bill which was read a first time in 1911. NEWSPAPER STRIKE. NEWSBOYS ATTACKED. NEW YORK, May 11. The employees of the newspapers, who are on strike in Chicago, are attacking the newsboys, because they are selling papers issued by non-union workers. Many arrests have been made in connection with the attacks. The pressroom men employed by several newspapers in San Francisco have struck in sympathy with their comrades who are on strike in Chicago. The issue of the newspapers has consequently been restricted. BAKERS ON STRIKE. OTTAWA. May 11. A large number of bakers in Montreal hare struck. Many acts of violence against the masters are reported. Two of the employers were beaten in the streets and the wife of one of them was knocked senseless. SOUTH WAXES DEADLOCK. MINERS RETIRE FROM BOARD. LONDON, May 12. The South Wales CoaP Miners' Executive has decided, as a result of the proceedings at the late sitting of the District Coal Board, to recommend the South Wales Federation not to participate in any further sittings of the Board under the presidency of Lord St. Aldwyn. The federation ha* confirmed the recommendation pending a conference of the Miners' Federations of Great Britain on May 21. The newspapers recall the fact that section four of tie new Act allows Lord St. AJdwyn (as chairman of the Board to fix the minimum wage independently of the miners if they refuse to be represented. By a small majority, the South Wales Miners' Executive has rejected the demand! of Mt. Stanton (one of their leaders) for a national stoppage (including the railwaymen and transport workers), and the proposal that the Labour party should obstruct all Parliamentary business until a living wage is provided for by an Act of Parliament, and all royalties abolished. LONDON TAILORS' STRIKE. FIFTY THOUSAND OUT. (Received 8.10 a.m.) LONDON, May 12. An additional 10,000 East End tailors and tailoresses are on strike, making a total in London of 50.000. Twenty-six firms have signed the London Tailors' Society agreement. Several hundred of those who were on strike have resumed work. STATE STRIKE SETTLED. MELBOURNE, May 12. The strike at the State coal mine at Wonthaggi has been settled, mutua.l concessions having been made by the parties. A ballot taken among Wonthaggi coal miners favoured the linking up with the New Zealand miners by 363 votes to six.
